Chipotle BBQ Shrimp Skewers
I’ve tried lots of BBQ Shrimp recipes, but this is my newest favorite. Simple, but delicious with a little kick (or a lot, depending on how many chipotle peppers you use.) For grilling I find that Tiger shrimp, because of their large size and stronger flavor work best. Sorry I don’t have a picture, of these. I was too busy eating!

Sparky & Spike’s Tangy Pepper Relish
I tried out a new pepper relish the other day, Sparky & Spike’s Tangy Pepper Relish. It’s good stuff! It’s a chunky blend of red and green peppers, including enough jalepeno to give it a nice kick. But it’s got a soft side too. Brown sugar, mustard, and garlic flavors give it a unique flavor.
I tried this out the other night on some chicken, which sounded like a good place to start. I grilled some chicken breasts then dollaped them with some of the relish that had been heated in a sauce pan. Really good, and really easy. Next I’d like to try this stuff on a burger, or bratwurst.

Texas BBQ Festival
Attended the Texas BBQ Festival this weekend in Austin, Texas. It was really, really crowded. To say the least. Parking took a good 30 minutes.
My guess is that a whole lot more people ended up attending than they expected. This being the first year, maybe they weren’t sure just how popular it would be. Parking was the biggest problem, but a close second where the lines.
The event was held at a Farmer’s Market. The various local barbecue vendors, about ten of them, setup and were selling “samplers” of $2 or $4. The problem was that the lines were a good 15-20 minutes long, making it difficult (unless you are patient) to sample them all.
Overall a good event, but I hope next year they have it in a larger venue such as a park. Not only for the convenience, but being able to sit under a tree rather than the hot sun would have been nice.

Hot Chick Stoner BBQ
No, I haven’t actually watched this DVD, but I stumbled across it the other day on Netflix and about died of laughter.
This is a guide to the art of barbequeing that you won’t want to miss! The lovely Hot Rod Honey imparts all her secrets, joined by her hot stoner friends in some meat-grilling, gun-shooting, whiskey-drinking, pot-smoking action. Honey will teach you how to perfectly prepare ribs, steaks, corn on the cob, mushrooms, and hot peppers, as well as the ins and outs of the consummate marinade and of course, meat rubs.
As hard as it is to imagine that someone made this, its even harder to imagine that there is a sequel.

I’m back!
Sorry for not posting in awhile. My family in South East Texas was hit by hurricane Rita and I spent a week cutting down trees, picking up leaves, and patching roofs. Not a lot of barbecue news came out of that deal.
Tommorow I’m heading down to the BBQ Festival in Austin, so I’ll post my report then.
