Wicked Cocktail Meatballs Recipe
The folks over at Wicked Tomato have posted an interesting recipe for cocktail meatballs, featuring their particulary flavor of BBQ Sauce. Sounds interesting, that’s for sure. Sam’s and Costco both sell bags of frozen mini-meatballs, which would make this a quick and easy appetizer.
Ingredients
- 1 jar Wicked Tomato BBQ Sauce
- 1 Tbs. horseradish
- 1 10-oz. jar grape jelly
Directions
Combine all ingredients in saucepan and cook until blended. Add cooked mini meatballs and heat to warm.

Steaks of St. Louis Delivers
While not generally a problem down here in Texas cattle country, you just can’t get good quality steaks everywhere else in the country without heading over to your local boutique steakhouse. Thanks to the wonders of dry ice and fast shipping however, Steaks of St. Louis gives you another option.
From their website you can order great steaks and have them delivered right to your door, vacuum sealed and packed in dry ice. Delivery takes about three days, and arrives in a styrofoam shipping container. The steaks were still frozen solid and my 3-year old enjoyed watching the remaining dry ice “smoke” in tub of water.

Steaks of St. Louis offers traditional cuts of choice beef and pork steaks, as well as ribs and roasts. In a unique twist, you can order your steaks with a variety of rubs already applied. I have several cuts in a variety of rubs awaiting me in my deep freeze, and will post a followup as I try each one. Stay tuned for the results!

Tangy Espresso BBQ Sauce Recipe
This easy to prepare barbecue sauce has the tang of vinegar and spicy mustard, the sweetness of brown sugar, and the complex earthy taste of espresso. Delicious on chicken or beef. Try it on a hamburger! Your favorite chili sauce gives it some kick!
Ingredients
- 12 ounces of chili sauce
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons instant espresso powder
- 2 tablespoons spicy brown mustard
Directions
Whisk together chili sauce, vinegar, sugar, espresso powder, and mustard. Bring to a low boil, and reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer for 2 minutes. Baste the meat well the last 8 to 10 minutes of grilling. This also makes a great dipping sauce, so you might want to make extra.

Silicon Basting Brushes
I’ve been using one of these new fangled silicone basting brushes for awhile now. They really do work a lot better than traditional brushes. Instead of horse hair (or yak, or monkey, or whatever the hell those brushes are made of) this type of basting brush’s “bristles” are made of dangly strands of heat-proof silicone. No more brush hairs in your food, and no more burnt ends.
I’ve found they work best with thicker sauces, especially barbecue sauce, honey, and the like. The model pictured here is fancy, shiny, and French. I’ve got another model with a dog ear shape that works better, but doesn’t look nearly as hi-tech.
Best of all, you can throw these in the dishwasher for easy cleaning. It really beats trying to get the grease and gunk out by hand in the sink, and is probably safer than my old method of just letting the cat lick it off.
